The Old Pier Knows many tales but some of its parts are new

  1. I like the title of this The Old Pier. I spent many weekends with my family under an old pier on Topsail Island, NC. The pier was Ocean city. This was the only section of the beach open to blacks. In the 50's there were a group of lawyers from Pender County that help blacks build a beach community on the island. My family started going to Ocean City Pier in the late 60's. There were no bath house so we wore our swim wear there and back the sand would get in places that made for terrible hour and a half ride home. When I was about 13yrs. old I told my Mom that one day we would have a house there and we would walk across the street to the house and wash off the sand. August 2016 construction was completed on that house. Thought you would enjoy hearing about my old pier that can tell lots of things

    1. I love this story! We were not allowed on the beach when the old part of the pier was built. Same water but we went to Atlantic beach. Your story cries Victory!
